The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
50S ribosomal protein L1; Chain A, Domain 1
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: 50S ribosomal protein L1; Chain A, Domain 1

According to the literature PMID:17962298, members of this superfamily share sequence and corresponding structure with domain 1 of the protein L1 found in the 50S ribosome. As we can see in the given structure L1 has two domains with domain 2 being an insertion in domain 1, causing both N- and C-termini to be located in close proximity in domain 1. Furthermore, it shows that domain 1 is essential for specific RNA binding, function which can be extrapolated to the whole superfamily.
