FunFam 225: Renalase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Renalase. [EC: 1.6.3.5]
(1) 1,2-dihydro-beta-NAD(P) + H(+) + O(2) = beta-NAD(P)(+) + H(2)O(2). (2) 1,6-dihydro-beta-NAD(P) + H(+) + O(2) = beta-NAD(P)(+) + H(2)O(2).
  • Renalase, previously thought to be a hormone, is a flavoprotein secreted into the blood by the kidney that oxidizes the 1,2-dihydro- and 1,6-dihydro- isomeric forms of beta-NAD(P)H back to beta- NAD(P)(+).
  • These isomeric forms, generated by nonspecific reduction of beta- NAD(P)(+) or by tautomerization of beta-NAD(P)H, are potent inhibitors of primary metabolism dehydrogenases and pose a threat to normal respiration.
