Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Thiamin diphosphate (ThDP)-binding fold, Pyr/PP domains

This entry represents the thiamin diphosphate-binding fold found in pyruvate dehydrogenases, branched chain alpha-keto acid decarboxylases, phosphoketolases and the pyrimidine binding region of transketolases PMID:8069629. The general thiamin diphosphate (ThDP) binding fold contains three alpha/beta-type domains, designated Pyr, R, and PP. Each domain is composed of a central six-stranded parallel beta-sheet surrounded by alpha-helices on both sides PMID:16216870 . This entry represents the Pyr and PP domains. Not only are these domains topologically similar, but they are also very similar to each other and are probably evolutionarily related PMID:8069629.
