FunFam 487: N-acylglucosamine 2-epimerase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
UDP-N,N'-diacetylbacillosamine 2-epimerase (hydrolyzing). [EC: 3.2.1.184]
UDP-N,N'-diacetylbacillosamine + H(2)O = UDP + 2,4-diacetamido-2,4,6- trideoxy-D-mannopyranose.
  • Involved in biosynthesis of legionaminic acid, a nonulosonate derivative that is incorporated by some bacteria into assorted virulence-associated cell surface glycoconjugates.
  • The initial product formed by the enzyme from Legionella pneumophila, which incorporates legionaminic acid into the O-antigen moiety of its lipopolysaccharide, is 2,4-diacetamido-2,4,6-trideoxy-alpha-D- mannopyranose, which rapidly mutarotates to a mixture of anomers.
  • The enzyme from Campylobacter jejuni, which incorporates legionaminic acid into flagellin, prefers GDP-N,N'-diacetylbacillosamine.
