Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: DNA packaging chaperone protein FI, C-terminal beta-strand domain

This superfamily includes the DNA packaging chaperone protein FI (gpFI), a two-domain protein (residues 1-41 and 72-132) that is required for efficient DNA packaging and in lambda bacteriophage head assembly. The C-terminal domain which this entry represents is responsible for the head binding activity. The domain adopts a beta-strand fold, presents several unstructured regions and a conserved EEE sequence motif.
