Superfamily: Sep15/SelM thioredoxin-like domain, active-site redox motif

Sep15 and its ortholog SelM are eukaryotic selenoproteins that have a thioredoxin-like domain and a surface accessible active-site redox motif. This suggests that they function as thiol-disulphide isomerases involved in disulphide bond formation in the endoplasmic reticulum. This superfamily is represented by the active-site redox motif found in both Sem15 and SelM (selenocysteine-containing CXXC-like motifs or CXXC-like derived motifs) whose function is to regulate the redox potential and catalytic efficiency of these enzymes.
