"
GAF domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: GAF domain

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the GAF domain of the sensor region in the cytosolic histidine kinase (HK), PdtaS, from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The N-terminal region of this protein is comprised of closely linked GAF and PAS domains (Superfamily 3.30.450.20), both are ubiquitous and form dimeric interfaces.

GAF domains are known to bind heme (as can PAS domains), to be involved in redox responses and even to function as catalytic domains PMID:22115998.
