2-keto-3-deoxy-galactonokinase, C-terminal domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: 2-keto-3-deoxy-galactonokinase, C-terminal domain

According to the literature, members of the structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of the C-terminal domain of 2-keto-3-deoxy-galactonokinase. This is a bacterial transferase which catalyses the penultimate reaction in the Ley-Doudoroff pathway, where d-galactose is metabolized into pyruvate and d- glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. This reaction involves the phosphorylation of 2-oxo-3-deoxygalactonate to 2-oxo-3-deoxygalactonate 6-phosphate using ATP as a phosphoryl-group donor.

Structure determination of this enzyme has revealed the presence of a nucleotide biding site, and therefore the involvement of this domain in nucleotide binding PMID:21795809
