Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: ATP synthase, E subunit, C-terminal

This superfamily includes the E subunit of ATP synthase as well as the archaebacterial ATP synthase E subunit.

Subunit E contains hendecad repeats (11/3) along the entirety of its N-terminal helix. The hendecad pattern is of the form a-b-c-d-e-f-g-h-i-j-k, with hydrophobic residues at positions a,d,e,h resulting in a right handed coiling of the helices PMID:23000382.

The C-terminal half of subunit E forms the majority of the head group and consists of a globular domain, which contains a four-stranded b-sheet and two a-helices followed by a C-terminal a-helical tail PMID:20173764.
