The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Periplasmic metal-binding protein Tp34-type
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Periplasmic metal-binding protein Tp34-type

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the bacterial periplasmic metal-binding protein Tp34. It is believed that Tp34, together with a group of uncharacterised proteins, are involved in high affinity Fe2+ transport. However, the structural and functional aspects of this group of proteins is yet to be determined.

It has been proposed that Tp34 binds zinc and the iron-sequestering lactoferrin PMID:17192261 and that it has a role in metal ion homeostasis PMID:23042995.
