"
Nascent polypeptide-associated complex domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Nascent polypeptide-associated complex domain

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the nascent polypeptide-associated complex (NAC) domain, which mediates dimerization of the two subunits, alpha-NAC (NACA) and beta-NAC (BTF3), that make up the eukaryotic NAC heterodimer PMID:21203952. NAC is a cytosolic chaperone that contact nascent polypeptide chains as they emerge from the ribosome and assist in post-translational processes. In addition to acting as a protein translation chaperone, the individual NAC subunits are also involved in transcriptional regulation PMID:20214399.
