FunFam 15: Terpene cyclase/mutase family member

There are 6 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Beta-amyrin synthase. [EC: 5.4.99.39]
(3S)-2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydrosqualene = beta-amyrin.
  • Some organism possess a monofunctional beta-amyrin synthase, other have a multifunctional enzyme that also catalyzes the synthesis of alpha-amyrin (EC 5.4.99.40) or lupeol (EC 5.4.99.41).
  • Formerly EC 5.4.99.n1.

Shionone synthase. [EC: 5.4.99.46]
(3S)-2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydrosqualene = shionone.
  • The enzyme gives traces of four other triterpenoids.
1 F8WQD0
Taraxerol synthase. [EC: 5.4.99.35]
(3S)-2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydrosqualene = taraxerol.
  • The enzyme gives taraxerol, beta-amyrin and lupeol in the ratio 70:17:13.
1 E2IUA6
Alpha-amyrin synthase. [EC: 5.4.99.40]
(3S)-2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydrosqualene = alpha-amyrin.
  • A multifunctional enzyme which produces both alpha- and beta-amyrin (see EC 5.4.99.39).
1 E7DN64
Delta-amyrin synthase. [EC: 5.4.99.55]
(3S)-2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydrosqualene = delta-amyrin.
  • The enzyme from tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) gives 48% delta-amyrin, 18% alpha-amyrin, 13% beta-amyrin and traces of three or four other triterpenoid alcohols.
  • See also EC 5.4.99.40 and EC 5.4.99.39.
1 E7DN64
Lupeol synthase. [EC: 5.4.99.41]
(3S)-2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydrosqualene = lupeol.
  • Also forms some beta-amyrin.
  • The recombinant enzyme from Arabidopsis thaliana gives a 1:1 mixture of lupeol and lupan-3-beta,20-diol with small amounts of beta-amyrin, germanicol, taraxasterol and psi-taraxasterol.
  • See EC 4.2.1.128.
