Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Exocyst complex component Exo70

The exocyst, also known as the Sec6/8 complex in mammals, is an evolutionarily conserved eight-protein complex required for the targeting and tethering of post-Golgi vesicles to the plasma membrane. Multiple small GTPases tightly regulate its function. Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of Exo70, one of the eight subunits of the exocyst which renders important for the localization of the exocyst to the plasma membrane. It interacts with TC10 and Rho3 GTPases in mammals and yeast, respectively, and also binds to the actin-polymerization complex Arp2/3 PMID:17583731,PMID:16249794,PMID:26607451.
