Methane monooxygenase, gamma chain, domain 1
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Methane monooxygenase, gamma chain, domain 1

According to the literature, members of the structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of domain 1 of gamma chain in methane monooxygenase. This enzyme catalyses the oxidation of methane to methanol in the presence of oxygen and NADH in methanotrophs. There is a soluble and a membrane bound form of this enzyme. The soluble form is comprised of 3 proteins termed A, B and C respectively. Protein A is made up of 3 chains, alpha beta and gamma. Chain gamma is itself composed of two structural domains (INTERPRO:IPR004222) which have been named 1 and 2 respectively.
