The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Ubiquitin-activating enzyme E1, SCCH domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Ubiquitin-activating enzyme E1, SCCH domain

The name has been given taking based on available crystal structures for proteins with domains in this superfamily combined with the abundance of available UniProt-SwissProt entries which show that structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to one of the domains in Uba E.

According to available literature, there are several homologues of this enzyme with one of them being ThiF, a protein that comes up a few times in the available UniProt-SwissProt entries PMID:19089947. Therefore, the name given seems to be best fitted to describe all members of this superfamily, mainly represented by the 5th domain of E1.
