"Spidroins contain repetitive units capped between non-repetitive N-terminal (NTD) and C-terminal (CTD) domains, whose composition varies among species and thus determines the variety of mechanical properties of spider silks. The CTDs are conserved among spider silk proteins. This superfamily comprises spidroin-like CTDs largely present in invertebrates, particularly arachnids.
