The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Penicillin-binding protein, N-terminal non-catalytic domain, head sub-domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Penicillin-binding protein, N-terminal non-catalytic domain, head sub-domain

This superfamily includes the dimerisation domain found at the N-terminus of Class B High Molecular Weight Penicillin-Binding Proteins. Its function has not been precisely defined, but is strongly implicated in PBP polymerisation. The entry represents the head subdomain located at the non-catalytic N-terminal domain which is largely alpha-helical.
