FunFam 4: AdoMet-dependent rRNA methyltransferase SPB1

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
27S pre-rRNA (guanosine(2922)-2'-O)-methyltransferase. [EC: 2.1.1.167]
S-adenosyl-L-methionine + guanosine(2922) in 27S pre-rRNA = S-adenosyl-L- homocysteine + 2'-O-methylguanosine(2922) in 27S pre-rRNA.
  • Spb1p is a site-specific 2'-O-ribose RNA methyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of 2'-O-methylguanosine(2922), a universally conserved position of the catalytic center of the ribosome that is essential for translation.
  • 2'-O-methylguanosine(2922) is formed at a later stage of the processing, during the maturation of of the 27S pre-rRNA.
  • In absence of snR52, Spb1p can also catalyze the formation of uridine(2921).
