FunFam 306: Arsenite methyltransferase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Arsenite methyltransferase. [EC: 2.1.1.137]
(1) S-adenosyl-L-methionine + arsenite = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + methylarsonate. (2) S-adenosyl-L-methionine + methylarsonite = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + dimethylarsinate.
  • An enzyme of the biotransformation pathway that forms dimethylarsinate from inorganic arsenite and arsenate.
  • It methylates arsenite to form methylarsonate, Me-AsO(3)H(2), which is reduced by EC 1.20.4.2 to methylarsonite, Me-As(OH)(2).
  • Methylarsonite is also a substrate for this enzyme which converts it into the much less toxic compound dimethylarsinate (cacodylate), Me(2)As(O)-OH.
