FunFam 1: Spore photoproduct lyase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

Spore photoproduct lyase. [EC: 4.1.99.14]
(5R)-5,6-dihydro-5-(thymidin-7-yl)thymidine (in double-helical DNA) = thymidylyl-(3'->5')-thymidylate (in double-helical DNA).
  • This enzyme is a member of the 'AdoMet radical' (radical SAM) family.
  • The enzyme binds a [4Fe-4S] cluster.
  • The cluster is coordinated by 3 cysteines and an exchangeable SAM molecule.
  • The 5'-deoxy-adenosine radical formed after electron transfer from the [4Fe-4S] cluster to the S-adenosyl-L-methionine, initiates the repair by abstracting the C-6 hydrogen of the spore photoproduct lesion.
  • During the second part of the repair process the SAM molecule is regenerated.
