FunFam 78: Intermediate cleaving peptidase 55

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Intermediate cleaving peptidase 55. [EC: 3.4.11.26]
The enzyme cleaves the 36-Pro-Pro-37 bond of cysteine desulfurase (EC 2.8.1.7) removing three amino acid residues (Tyr-Ser-Pro) from the N-terminus after cleavage by mitochondrial processing peptidase.
  • Icp55 removes the destabilizing N-terminal amino acid residues that are left after cleavage by the mitochondrial processing peptidase, leading to the stabilization of the substrate.
  • The enzyme can remove single amino acids or a short peptide, as in the case of cysteine desulfurase (EC 2.8.1.7), where three amino acids are removed.
