FunFam 1: Blast:Protein N-terminal glutamine amidohydrolase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Protein N-terminal glutamine amidohydrolase. [EC: 3.5.1.122]
N-terminal L-glutaminyl-[protein] + H(2)O = N-terminal L-glutamyl- [protein] + NH(3).
  • This enzyme participates in the eukaryotic ubiquitin-dependent Arg/N-end rule pathway of protein degradation, promoting the turnover of intracellular proteins that initiate with Met-Gln.
  • Following the acetylation and removal of the initiator methionine, the exposed N-terminal glutamine is deaminated, resulting in its conversion to L-glutamate.
  • The latter serves as a substrate for EC 2.3.2.8 making the protein susceptible to arginylation, polyubiquitination and degradation as specified by the N-end rule.
