FunFam 1: Amine oxidase

There are 2 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Diamine oxidase. [EC: 1.4.3.22]
Histamine + H(2)O + O(2) = (imidazol-4-yl)acetaldehyde + NH(3) + H(2)O(2).
  • A group of enzymes that oxidize diamines, such as histamine, and also some primary monoamines but have little or no activity toward secondary and tertiary amines.
  • They are copper quinoproteins (2,4,5-trihydroxyphenylalanine quinone) and, like EC 1.4.3.21 but unlike EC 1.4.3.4, they are sensitive to inhibition by carbonyl-group reagents, such as semicarbazide.
  • Formerly EC 1.4.3.6.

Primary-amine oxidase. [EC: 1.4.3.21]
RCH(2)NH(2) + H(2)O + O(2) = RCHO + NH(3) + H(2)O(2).
  • A group of enzymes that oxidize primary monoamines but have little or no activity toward diamines, such as histamine, or toward secondary and tertiary amines.
  • They are copper quinoproteins (2,4,5-trihydroxyphenylalanine quinone) and, unlike EC 1.4.3.4, are sensitive to inhibition by carbonyl-group reagents, such as semicarbazide.
  • In some mammalian tissues the enzyme also functions as a vascular- adhesion protein (VAP-1).
  • Formerly EC 1.4.3.6.
