FunFam 24: Allene oxide synthase, chloroplastic

There are 3 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Hydroperoxide dehydratase. [EC: 4.2.1.92]
(9Z,11E,15Z)-(13S)-hydroperoxyoctadeca-9,11,15-trienoate = (9Z,15Z)- (13S)-12,13-epoxyoctadeca-9,11,15-trienoate + H(2)O.
  • Acts on a number of unsaturated fatty-acid hydroperoxides, forming the corresponding allene oxides.
  • The product of the above reaction is unstable and is acted upon by EC 5.3.99.6 to form the cyclopentenone derivative (15Z)-12-oxophyto- 10,15-dienoate (OPDA), which is the first cyclic and biologically active metabolite in the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway.

Colneleate synthase. [EC: 4.2.1.121]
(9S,10E,12Z)-9-hydroperoxyoctadeca-10,12-dienoate = (8E)-9-((1E,3Z)-nona- 1,3-dien-1-yloxy)non-8-enoate + H(2)O.
  • It catalyzes the selective removal of pro-R hydrogen at C-8 in the biosynthesis of colneleic acid.
  • It forms also (8E)-9-((1E,3Z,6Z)-nona-1,3,6-trien-1-yloxy)non-8-enoic acid (i.e. colnelenate) from (9Z,10E,12Z,15Z)-9-hydroperoxy-10,12,15- octadecatrienoate.
  • The corresponding 13-hydroperoxides are poor substrates.
  • The divinyl ethers colneleate and colnelenate have antimicrobial activity.

Allene-oxide cyclase. [EC: 5.3.99.6]
(9Z)-(13S)-12,13-epoxyoctadeca-9,11,15-trienoate = (15Z)-12-oxophyto- 10,15-dienoate.
  • Allene oxides formed by the action of EC 4.2.1.92 are converted into cyclopentenone derivatives.
