Superfamily: Glycosyltransferase family 88, C-terminal domain

This is a family of type A glycosyltransferases found in Legionella. It acts as a virulence factor by the glucosylation of EF1A (elongation factor 1A) thereby blocking protein synthesis in the host cell.

The glucosyltransferase Lgt1 is one of three glucosylating toxins of Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires disease. According to literature, the third (C-terminal) domain of Lgt1 is less well defined and forms an extended protrusion between residues 323 and 444, after which the course of the peptide chain returns to the UDP-Glc binding site only to subsequently terminate in an elongated C-terminal loop.
