The name has been chosen based on the fact that the representative domain for this superfamily matches relatively well with a Pfam domain which belongs to a superfamily known as presenilin. This is further backed by the InterPro entry for this domain. Although in InterPro a slightly different name is given, Peptidase A22A presenilin, and this name is linked to this superfamily in CATH, the Pfam designation seems more appropriate when also taking into consideration the abundance of UniProt-SwissProt entries associated with this superfamily.
