Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Signal transduction histidine kinase, dimerisation/phosphotransfer (DHp) domain

Two-component signal transduction systems (TCSs) are promising targets for new antimicrobial research because they help bacteria and fungi adapt and survive. One of the main components of TCSs is a sensor histidine kinase (SK), which relays extracellular signals to intracellular pathways. Sensor histidine kinases are composed of HAMP, PAS, DHp, catalytic and ATP binding domains in addition to a short transmembrane domain PMID:23468592. This entry represents the dimerisation and phosphotransfer domain (DHp). The dimer forms a closed, four-helical bundle with a left-handed twist, consisting of the two identical alpha-hairpin subunits (INTERPRO:IPR003661) .
