Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase 51kDa subunit

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the 51 kDa subunit of the NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex 1), the first enzyme both mitochondrial and bacteria respiratory chain which couples electron transfer between NADH and quinone to proton translocation PMID:19635800. This 51 kDa subunit, as well as the corresponding bacterial subunit (Nqo1 in Thermus and NuoF in E. coli) PMID:12600193, contains the NADH-binding site, the primary electron acceptor FMN-binding site, and a 4Fe-4S cluster PMID:16469879.
