Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: TspO/MBR protein

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the translocator protein (TspO), previously known as peripheral-type benzodiazepine receptor (PBR, MBR), which is mainly found in the outer mitochondrial membrane of steroid synthesizing cells of the nervous system. In animals it forms a complex with several proteins of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP). TspO plays a role in mitochondrial respiration, cell proliferation, immunomodulation and apoptosis PMID:24653034,PMID:25974690.
