Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Interleukin-34

Interleukins (IL) are a group of cytokines that modulate inflammation and immunity by regulating growth, mobility and differentiation of lymphoid and other cells. Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of Interleukin-34 (IL-34), identified as the second functional ligand for colony stimulating factor (CSF)-1R. Upon binding to this receptor, IL-34 promotes differentiation and viability of monocytes and macrophages PMID:18467591.
