FunFam 1: Citrate synthase

There are 3 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Citrate synthase (unknown stereospecificity). [EC: 2.3.3.16]
Acetyl-CoA + H(2)O + oxaloacetate = citrate + CoA.
  • This entry has been included to accommodate those citrate synthases for which the stereospecificity with respect to C(2) of oxaloacetate has not been established (cf. EC 2.3.3.1 and EC 2.3.3.3).

Citrate (Si)-synthase. [EC: 2.3.3.1]
Acetyl-CoA + H(2)O + oxaloacetate = citrate + CoA.
  • The stereospecificity of this enzyme is opposite to that of EC 2.3.3.3, which is found in some anaerobes.
  • Citrate synthase for which the stereospecificity with respect to C(2) of oxaloacetate has not been established are included in EC 2.3.3.16.
  • Formerly EC 4.1.3.7.

2-methylcitrate synthase. [EC: 2.3.3.5]
Propanoyl-CoA + H(2)O + oxaloacetate = (2S,3S)-2-hydroxybutane-1,2,3- tricarboxylate + CoA.
  • The enzyme acts on acetyl-CoA, propanoyl-CoA, butanoyl-CoA and pentanoyl-CoA.
  • The relative rate of condensation of acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate is 140% of that of propanoyl-CoA and oxaloacetate, but the enzyme is distinct from EC 2.3.3.1.
  • Oxaloacetate cannot be replaced by glyoxylate, pyruvate or 2-oxoglutarate.
  • Formerly EC 4.1.3.31.
