The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase

When looking at the UniProt-SwissProt entries for this superfamily it can be seen that domains that comprise this superfamily can be found in two different types of proteins, RNA polymerase II elongation factor ELL and E3 ubiquitin protein ligases UBR1 and UBR2. However, structural information is only available for ELL.

Taking this into account, the name has been selected according to available literature which shows that ELL functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase PMID:27009366 and, as a consequence, this superfamily is associated with E3 ubiquitin ligation.
