Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: MyTH4 domain

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the myosin tail homology 4 (MyTH4) domain, a conserved domain in the tail domains of several different unconventional myosins PMID:11401444 and a plant kinesin-like protein PMID:1074599, but has more recently been found in several non-motor proteins PMID:12062040. Myosin-X is one of the best characterized unconventional myosin and, even though the function of MyTH4 is not yet fully understood, there is evidence suggesting that the MyTH4 domain of Myosin-X is involved in microtubule binding and therefore could provide a link between an actin-based motor protein and the microtubule cytoskeleton PMID:15372037.

The MyTH4 domain is found in one or two copies associated with other domains, such as myosin head, kinesin motor, FERM, PH, SH3 and IQ.
