L1 transposable element, trimerization domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: L1 transposable element, trimerization domain

According to the literature, members of the structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to a conserved component in the protein ORF1 of the long interspersed nuclear element 1 (LINE-1 or L1) retrotransposon. This domain is annotated in InterPro as a trimerization domain (INTERPRO:IPR035301) and it corresponds to an N-terminal, ion-containing coiled coil that serves as scaffold for the flexible attachment of the central RRM and the C-terminal domains PMID:21822284
