Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Ribosomal protein L25, C-terminal domain

This superfamily entry represents the C-terminal domain from the ribosomal protein L25, found in the large subunit (50S) of the bacterial ribosome. It has a mainly beta-strand structure, and it binds specifically to a portion of the 5S rRNA called loop E. The bacterial ribosomal protein L25 is bound to 5S rRNA along with L5 and L18, forming a separate domain of the ribosome. L25 (or bL25) is called TL5 in T50S (the large subunit of Thermus thermophilus,PMID:11418764 and CTC in D50S (the large ribosomal subunit of Deinococcus radiodurans). In E70S, bL25 has a single domain, in SA50S and T70S it has two domains, and in D50S the CTC protein contains three domains.
