The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
RNA polymerase Rpb1, domain 3
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: RNA polymerase Rpb1, domain 3

According to the literature, structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of domain 3 in RNA polymerase Ppb1, enzyme which catalyses RNA synthesis. This domain is annotated in Pfam as a pore domain (PFAM:PF04983), thought to be a channel through which nucleotides enter the active site and/or through which the 3'end of RNA is extruded. The latter is based on the fact that the 3'end of RNA is located very close to this domain.
