The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Viral ssDNA binding protein, head domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Viral ssDNA binding protein, head domain

This superfamily consists of 8 alpha helices.

The associated literature refers to this superfamily as the head domain of Herpes simplex 1 virus ssDNA binding protein. The superfamily is such that it is not formed by a contiguous polypeptide chain within viral ssDNA binding protein.

The head domain interacts with the CTD of the protein and gives the CTD structure. The CTD is involved in increasing the ssDNA binding protein's co-operativity when binding ICP8, which is believed to stimulate helicase activity.
